In Puyallup, Washington, a distinctive 1929 structure known as “The Castle” has become the proud headquarters of Rambo Total Pest Control. This month marks a significant milestone as the company celebrates one year in their fully renovated space, concluding a journey that began in the summer of 2020 when owners Luke and Tera Rambo spotted a “for sale” sign while driving by on 112th St E during the pandemic. What was initially envisioned as a quick conversion from residence to business space evolved into something much more substantial.
Renovation Journey and Milestone Celebration
The Rambos closed on the property in November 2020, expecting a brief renovation period of just a few months. Instead, they undertook a significant three-and-a-half-year transformation that addressed every aspect of the aging structure. The team methodically replaced all outdated wiring and plumbing, completely rebuilt the sewer system, and significantly expanded the driveway to accommodate business operations. Additional improvements included installing new windows, carefully repairing the original brick and mortar, and reinforcing the roof to ensure structural integrity for years to come.
What made the renovation particularly challenging was the depth of work required—the team stripped the original plaster and lathe down to the studs to fully modernize the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems throughout the building. Despite these extensive changes, they maintained a commitment to preserving the property’s unique character and original layout wherever feasible. “There were times during the three-year process that we definitely had doubts about whether we made the right decision to invest in this property,” reflected Luke Rambo. “Now that it is complete and we have been here for a year, we’re confident it was absolutely worth it.” This anniversary represents not just a calendar milestone but validation of their vision and perseverance.
Business Growth and Future Vision
The transformation of the former residence into a functional business headquarters required creative repurposing of residential spaces. What were once upstairs bedrooms now serve as offices for the management team, while the dining and kitchen areas have been converted into efficient workspaces. The living room now accommodates three workstations, and the upstairs recreation room has found new purpose as a conference room where team meetings and client consultations take place. This thoughtful redesign has created a workspace that balances functionality with the charm of the historic building, providing a unique environment that reflects the company’s distinctive approach to business.
